About Long Beach Community Compost: Long Beach Community Compost boosts community health by upcycling food waste back into local soil and promoting human connection. We envision an interconnected Long Beach where all people are empowered with the knowledge and resources to recycle organic waste into soil. To accomplish this, we will identify and collaborate with organizations in both underserved and prepared communities.

Job Summary: As a Project Coordinator, you will lead volunteer recruitment and engagement, acting as the primary contact for volunteers and overseeing their orientation and training. Administrative duties include managing records and finances, while community outreach involves developing event procedures and partnerships. Additionally, you will coordinate event logistics and support organizational campaigns, ensuring effective operation of volunteer programs and community initiatives. The Project coordinator reports to Members of the organization and the Board and works closely in collaboration with them.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Recruitment & Engagement:
    • Collaborate with the Members to create and implement a volunteer engagement plan.
    • Recruit, screen, and place applicants for volunteer work.
    • Develop and implement effective strategies to enhance volunteer engagement.
    • Act as a single point of contact for communications with volunteers.
  2. Training & Development:
    • Provide orientation and training to new volunteers.
    • Develop and manage volunteer policies, procedures, and standards of volunteer service.
    • Manage operations at the Training Hub.
  3. Administration:
    • Maintain accurate records and provide timely reports on volunteer participation, training, and outreach.
    • Maintain accurate records on financial expenditures in collaboration with the Secretary of the Board.
  4. Community Outreach:
    • Develop standard procedures for outreach events.
    • Mange outreach campaigns, such as door-to-door awareness raising.
    • Foster a supportive and positive environment for volunteers.
    • Nurture partnerships with other community organizations.
  5. Event Coordination:
    • Manage and schedule drop-offs, keep track of piles, and coordinate with other organizations with whom LB Compost shares space.
    • Assist with organizing and staffing organizational events and campaigns.

  • At least 1 year of experience in large-scale community composting.
  • At least 1 year of experience in volunteer coordination and management.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and team management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs.

Benefits and Pay:
  • Partially flexible part-time hours
  • $26/hr for up to 20 hours per week
